The A330 series is a twine-engine, widebody airliner produced by Airbus. Its second generation of airframes, the A330neo series, are currently succeeding the CEO series.
The program was jointly launched with the A340 in 1987.
Its first flight took place on November 1992, and it was first delivered to French carrier Air France (Air Inter) in 1994.
Since its first certification in 1993, 14 variants of the A330 (-200 & -300 included) have been certified.
Launched on July 14, 2014, the second-generation of the A330, the A330neo (-900), includes changes such as having a single engine manufacturer.
The first flight of an A330-900 took place on October, 2019.The first A330NEO was delivered to launch operator TAP Air Portugal in November, 2018 and entered commercial service December of the same year.
The final assembly of the first A330-800 began in the fall of 2017 and it made its first flight in November 2018, and Kuwait Airways has been appointed launch customer.
The A330 is designed to serve medium and long-haul routes. The seating capacity is a typical two-class configuration, designed to be the low-cost answer for network segments where the ultra-long range is not needed.
For these routes, the A330neo will show its true potential, thanks to an weight optimized for medium haul routes, being a true competitive advantage compared to long-range aircraft flying these routes.
